Today’s reading: Mark 12:38-44, 13:1-13
“And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.” Mark 13:10 NIV
Jesus, here in Mark 13, does kind of a dual prophecy, where he switches at one point from talking about the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 to the end of all time when He returns do His church.
Here in this verse, He tells his disciples that over the course of the next 40ish years, they will take the gospel to every known people group in the Mediterranean. Remote islands, Asia Minor, even the place of Rome itself.
What a daunting task for the disciples, but Jesus reminds them of the Holy Spirit’s aid in all of it. They won’t be alone. It will be hard, but they will be able to endure to the end with God’s help.
