Reaching the Roar Campaign

Reaching the Roar Campaign

In August of 2021, we started this campaign to purchase the house located at 1139 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. and the piece of land next to it at 1101 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. Our goal was to raise one million dollars in three years. Though we came up short of our goal, we were still able to raise over $600K, which allowed us the opportunity to finance the remaining amount. We are still working to make it to our original goal while making needed improvements to the property.

From 2021 to 2024, we used the Campus House for all the purposes we had set out to achieve. Young men found a place to live and find community, Bible studies met regularly, we hosted so many events, and we found a place to call home as a ministry. We hope that we’ve honored the name of Jesus during this time, and we pray He’ll continue to do so in this place for years to come.

About the Campaign: Two Phases

PHASE ONE:

Since we started the Reaching the Roar Campaign in August 2021, we have been blessed by God to raise $640,672.31. This has come as a result of over 190 different givers. We were able to bring $499,036.99 to closing, which, combined with the $100,000 we had initially put down, has allowed our monthly mortgage payment to be near the same amount as our previous lease payment ($3,048.88) as we start into this new phase.

PHASE TWO:

We still have a remaining $359,327.69 to raise to fulfill our initial goal. Funds given to the Reaching the Roar Campaign from this point forward will be used to pay off the balance and do some urgent repairs to the house, which was initially built in 1920. We had earmarked $50,000 at the beginning for repairs, and we undertook our first project by bringing the downstairs flooring supports in the crawlspace up to code on 8/21/24. This cost was $13,751.25. With the house being 4,000 square feet, we determined that $185 would cover a square foot. So many people and churches have used this as a tangible way to give. Our prayer is to be able to pay off the remaining balance within the first five years of the fifteen-year mortgage term. (amounts updated 12/10/24)

The Why Behind The Property

1. Housing

(for Indy College Students)

The nearly 4,000 square foot house, with 5 bedrooms and 3 ½ baths, will accommodate up to seven Christian students who are looking to grow in their faith amidst their college experience at IUPUI.

2. Hosting (Bible Studies and Discipleship)

In a world of uncertainty, it has been our dream to provide consistency for students through a dedicated Bible study space. This house will provide ample space and a welcoming atmosphere for our 10+ small groups to meet weekly.

3. Connecting (Fellowship Events)

This property is located a half-mile from the edge of IUI and Purdue’s campus. This will make it an ideal spot for hosting intentional times for community, such as meals and game nights (good, clean fun).

4. Working (Office Space)

Having a permanent space to complete administrative duties has always been a matter of prayer for us. Having our own four walls to prepare Bible studies and meet with students will be invaluable.

5. Lasting (Longevity)

One of our values as a ministry is to ensure that we leave behind something healthy, sustaining, and life-giving for future generations. Owning this house and the attached land will help bring this desire to fruition.
